Estate Planning Paralegal

Eckert Byrne LLC is a Cambridge, Massachusetts estate planning law firm seeking a full-time Estate Planning and Probate and Estate Administration Paralegal. We are a boutique Life & Legacy Estate Planning Firm with a focus on building lasting relationships with our clients and their families by becoming their trusted advisor.  Your role is to serve as an estate planning and administration paralegal and become an integral member of our team.

About You: You love interacting with people and making a difference in their lives. You have outstanding computer skills (Mac) and are not afraid to learn new apps and software programs. We are a Mac-based office so you must be familiar with Apple computers or are very eager to learn. You are instantly likable and establish rapport effortlessly. You are comfortable drafting estate plans, processing funding forms, meeting with clients and following up with people — doing the mind-numbing, but necessary, tasks that come with every job.
You understand that a law firm handles confidential information and can abide by the ethical requirements of the position. You can take a project from start to finish with minimal supervision. You can handle frequent interruptions without an audible sigh, and you can smile politely as the lead attorney changes the placement of a comma for the fourth time. You are a team player, and happy to help where you can. You are self-motivated and familiarize yourself with impending project deadlines. You get excited about what we do because of the difference we make for our clients.

Job duties include:
  • Responding to client inquiries via phone and e-mail;
  • Managing the entire client process, including follow-up with new and existing clients;
  • Communicating, via phone and e-mail, with clients and their trusted advisors by using excellent grammar;
  • Handling case management from inception of file to close of matter (estate planning, estate administration and probate matters)
  • Assisting with document generation and review;
  • Assisting with general trust administration (settling probate estates, estate and gift tax returns, trust and probate accountings, trust funding, assisting with client inquiries and general paralegal/administrative assistance to attorneys)
  • Responsibly using spreadsheets (Excel) and flowcharts (Keynote), client customer relations systems (Daylite), and e-mail software;
  • Coordinating referrals to other attorneys and professionals;
  • Managing a process for documenting follow-ups and closing files
  • Working within deadlines and completing tasks before being told to do so
Preference will be given to a candidate with prior work experience at a legal / financial institution and/or bank. Position requires strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent listening skills and ability to explain complex concepts to clients; extreme attention to detail; ability to multitask and work on short-term and long-term projects simultaneously; work on multiple projects in a friendly, fast paced environment; a minimum of 5-7 years (full-time) in an office setting required. Must be willing to complete a work preference assessment/questionnaire. Compensation based on experience ($50-$70k). We offer paid vacation time and paid holidays after a 90-day trial period.

Associate Attorney

 Primary Job Duties Include: 
– Manage Probate and Trust Administration process; keep status reports current;
– Prepare and review of estate planning and trust funding documents to ensure that the documents are appropriately drafted to meet the planning needs and recommendations for clients
– Conduct, review and document signing appointments with clients
– Review and Conduct annual maintenance process for our trust based clients
– Respond to any client phone calls or e-mails
– Keep detailed notes of all meetings and phone calls and ensure that notes are maintained inside the client file
– Interact with paralegal and other team members in a cordial and professional manner
– Any other projects as assigned
Requirements: MA licensed attorney; Minimum of 3-8 years expertise in the area of Estate Planning and Probate and Trust Administration. Knowledge of income, gift, and estate tax laws; Notary Public; Must be willing to complete a short work-preferences questionnaire, results are shared with you. This is a full time position available immediately, but there is flexibility if someone prefers part/flex time and meets all the requirements. Compensation is based on experience, and includes excellent benefits. Our office is closed on major holidays and we offer paid vacation time and paid holidays after a 90-day trial period.

Your role is to serve as a file clerk to the attorneys & staff in the firm and be an integral part of our team. We are looking for a conscientious and detail-oriented individual to work in our fast-paced office.

You have outstanding organizational skills and are comfortable processing high volumes of paperwork. We are a Mac-based office so extensive previous experience using them is ideal. You understand that a law firm handles confidential information and can abide by the ethical requirements of the position. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded, educated individual eager to accomplish the first project. This position may become full-time salaried.
