A Statement On Our Beliefs And Mission
“If you believe in a cause, be willing to stand up for that cause with a million people or by yourself.” ― Otis S. Johnson
Eckert Byrne’s mission was founded on education – educating ourselves and our clients. We are fortunate to have a diverse client family, and continue to provide a caring space for all. We are looking inward, holding ourselves accountable, and asking how we can do better.
In the words of Kerry Curtin, team member Eileen Curtin’s 21-year-old daughter, “It’s important that we educate ourselves. Be present and listen…and when we think we understand, we should continue to grow and challenge our previous mindsets.”
We live in a complicated time, and we rejoice in being part of a diverse community, as we ourselves are each different and unique. There are many loud and shouting voices, but we have a very simple and direct message:
Racism has no place in our society nor in our firm.
People should be judged by their actions as individuals, and not by any pre-conceived ideas or by their skin color.
And while it is always easier to judge others, it is best to start by judging ourselves against the standards we claim to hold.
As a predominately all-woman firm, we are making a gift to the Loveland Foundation that supports black women and girls. The Loveland Foundation was established in 2018 by Rachel Cargle in response to her widely successful birthday wish fundraiser, Therapy for Black Women and Girls. Her enthusiastic social media community raised over $250,000, which made it possible for Black women and girls nationally to receive therapy support. Black women and girls deserve access to healing, and that healing will impact generations. https://thelovelandfoundation.org/
This is the time to walk the talk, and to do even one small thing that makes a difference. This is how our legacy is created.
